Caernarfon Castle
This World Heritage site is 20 minutes drive away.

Penrhyn Castle near Bangor is famous for its 1 ton slate bed made for Queen Victoria.

Other famous Welsh castles can be found at Conwy, Beaumaris, Criccieth and Harlech.

Portmeirion Village was built between 1925 and 1939 by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful place could be developed without spoiling it. It is also famous as the location for the 1960s TV series "The Prisoner".

Greenwood Forest Park
Forest walks, activities and rides, including the "world's first people-powered roller coaster".

Parc Glynllifon
A hidden gem, with beautiful walks, interesting shops and things to see, as well as a cafe. As seen on BBC TV's "Hidden Houses of Wales" — although sadly the house is not yet open to the public.

St. Beuno's at Clynnog Fawr: impressive 16th Century church with a number of interesting artefacts.

The Welsh Highland Railway runs from Caernarfon towards Porthmadog, where you can join the Ffestiniog railway. The WHR line is now open as far as Pont Croesor, with access to the RSPB Osprey Centre.

The extension to Porthmadog should see a full service running in 2011, after completion of BR's signalling work and other infrastructure improvements.

The Snowdon Mountain Railway normally runs from May to November, although a partial service (to Clogwyn station) starts earlier in the season, weather permitting. The new summit cafe ("Hafod Eryri" — which translates as "summer residence in Snowdonia") is open from 08:00 to 20:00 each day.
